While our country South Africa and the entire world is in a state of worry due to the outbreak of Corona Virus (Covid-19), it is important to heed all the preventative measures that have been provided by health officials in order to ensure that we keep safe during this difficult period.
With schools closed and other institutions allowing for daily activities to now happen within closed doors and at homes, Ikhono Foundation wishes to advise fellow South Africans, especially the scholars and students to keep busy during this period.
Below are some of the things that you can do:
- Assignments & Exam Preparation
Update your study calendar, consult your assignment schedule for submission dates, and gather supplementary study material to reinforce your studies. You can do this by sparing at least 2 hours daily.
- Homework & Projects
To avoid unnecessary pressure when the nation goes back to its normal state, complete all homework and projects given. Ask for help from your siblings, family and friends. Social Media platforms such as WhatsApp and Messenger are great platforms to share notes and ideas.
- Planning
Have a plan of action during this period. This plan should not only focus on your homework, academic requirements and work commitments, but should include your daily operations and lifestyle. Make sure you include your personal and family responsibilities as well.
- Spring Cleaning & Hygiene
This is by far the critical factor that needs to be implemented across by everyone and every day. Basic hygiene manners such as washing of hands and the cleansing of surfaces, should be a norm in order to prevent contracting and spreading the virus.
- Family Time
This is an opportune time to spend and bond with your family and close loved ones. Use this time to spread love and reinforce family relationships. This will allow for intimate and other issues that may have not been addressed due to our busy lives, to be addressed.
- Mind Stimulating Activities
Invest in quizzes, general knowledge games and board games. Do not keep idle, capacitate the mind.
- Reading
Keep abreast of the latest news and trends. Read more about current affairs such as the Covid-19 and updates from government and official stakeholders. Online books are also available to pursue. Traditional reading material such as newspapers and magazines are also essential.
- Home Physical Exercise
Use at least 15 to 20 minutes of your time to do some indoor physical exercises. These exercises do not need any extra-ordinary equipment, or going to the gym. Try to explore the following: Warm ups, stretching, flexibility moves, spot runs, etc.
